Using InfluxDB in Grafana

You can access the InfluxDB editor under the metrics tab when you are in the edit mode of the Graph or Singlestat panels. Enter edit mode by clicking the panel title, and clicking Edit. You can remove tag filters by clicking on the tag key and then selecting --remove tag filter You can type in regex patterns for metric names or tag filter values. If you have a group by time you need an aggregation function. Some functions like derivative require an aggregation function.

The editor tries to simplify and unify this part of the query. For example:. Pick a tag from the dropdown that appears. You can remove the group by by clicking on the tag and then click on the x icon.

You can switch to raw query mode by clicking hamburger icon and then Switch editor mode. You can remove the group by time by clicking on the time part and then the x icon. You can change the option Format As to Table if you want to show raw data in the Table panel. The goal is to be able to see if a workstation, adding something to the registry, added a user, mapped a network drive etc. I wan t to be able to see if activity on a workstation did one or multiple.

Whew got it to work but it had to be an exact match. Trick that helped me -- Find what you want to filter in the dashboard, hit the '-' sign that will add the filter to the top of the dashboard. Edit that filter and that should give the DSL elasticsearch uses to see that data! Copy that into your own filter and boom it works. Open Source is at the heart of what we do at Grafana Labs. Variables allows for more interactive and dynamic dashboards. Instead of hard-coding things like server, application and sensor name in your metric queries you can use variables in their place. Variables are shown as dropdown select boxes at the top of the dashboard. These dropdowns make it easy to change the data being displayed in your dashboard. A variable is a placeholder for a value.

You can use variables in metric queries and in panel titles. Why two ways? The first syntax is easier to read and write but does not allow you to use a variable in the middle of word.

Use the second syntax in expressions like my. Before queries are sent to your data source the query is interpolatedmeaning the variable is replaced with its current value. During interpolation the variable value might be escaped in order to conform to the syntax of the query language and where it is used.

For example, a variable used in a regex expression in an InfluxDB or Prometheus query will be regex escaped. Read the data source specific documentation article for details on value escaping during interpolation. The formatting of the variable interpolation depends on the data source but there are some situations where you might want to change the default formatting. For example, the default for the MySql data source is to join multiple values as comma-separated with quotes: 'server01','server02'.

In some cases you might want to have a comma-separated string without quotes: server01,server This is now possible with the advanced formatting options. Formats single- and multi-valued variables into a comma-separated string, escapes ' in each value by '' and quotes each value with '.

Test the formatting options on the Grafana Play site. A variable is presented as a dropdown select box at the top of the dashboard. It has a current value and a set of options. The options is the set of values you can choose from. This opens up a list of variables and a New button to create a new variable. This variable type is the most powerful and complex as it can dynamically fetch its options using a data source query. Using the Regex Query Option, you filter the list of options returned by the Variable query or modify the options returned.

One thing to note is that query expressions can contain references to other variables and in effect create linked variables. Interpolating a variable with multiple values selected is tricky as it is not straight forward how to format the multiple values to into a string that is valid in the given context where the variable is used. Grafana tries to solve this by allowing each data source plugin to inform the templating interpolation engine what format to use for multiple values.Prometheus provides a functional query language called PromQL Prometheus Query Language that lets the user select and aggregate time series data in real time.

The result of an expression can either be shown as a graph, viewed as tabular data in Prometheus's expression browser, or consumed by external systems via the HTTP API.

This document is meant as a reference. For learning, it might be easier to start with a couple of examples. In Prometheus's expression language, an expression or sub-expression can evaluate to one of four types:.

Depending on the use-case e. For example, an expression that returns an instant vector is the only type that can be directly graphed. PromQL follows the same escaping rules as Go. Vector selectors must either specify a name or at least one label matcher that does not match the empty string. The following expression is illegal:.Dates and Times. A critical function of any database system is to enable fetching subsets of the full data set using some form of filtering. OpenTSDB has provided filtering since version 1. Filters currently operate on tag values at this time. That means that any metrics and tag keys must be specified exactly as they appear in the database when fetching data.

As each filter is explained below, the following data set is used. It consists of a single metric with multiple time series defined on various tags. Only one data point is given at T1 as an example. Grouping, also referred to as group-byis the process of combining multiple time series into one using the required aggregation function and filters. By default, OpenTSDB groups everything by metric so that if the query returned 10 time series with an aggregator of sumall 10 series would be added together over time to arrive at one value.

See Aggregation for details on how time series are merged. To avoid grouping and fetch each underlying time series without any aggregation, use the none aggregator included in version 2. See API documentation on how to do so. The two operators allowed were:. Multiple filters can be provided per query and the results are always ANDed together. These filters are still available for use in 2.

The following examples use the v1 HTTP URI syntax wherein the m parameter consists of the aggregator, a colon, then the metric and tag filters in brackets separated by equal signs. In this case the aggregated tags set will be empty as time series 4 and 5 have tags that are not in common with the entire set.

This will group on the host tag key and return a time series per unique host tag value, in this case 3 series. Here the operator is used to match only the values for the dc tag key that are provided in the query.

Therefore the TSD will group together any time series with those values. The host tag is moved to the Aggregated Tags list as every time series in the set has a host tag and there are multiple values for the tag key. Because these filters are limited, if users write time series like 14 and 5unexpected results can be returned as a result of aggregating time series that may have one common tag but varying additional tags.

This problem is somewhat addressed with 2. The filter framework is plugable to allow for tying into external systems such as asset management or provisioning systems.

Multiple filters on the same tag key are allowed and when processed, they are ANDed together e. If two or more filters are included for the same tag key and one has group by enabled but another does not, then group by will effectively be true for all filters on that tag key.

This is what I've got, but instead of specifying the ID "", I want to use a wildcard, and have each ID grouped together. Logically, I tried: divideSeries stats. I tried mucking around with asPercentbut it has the same limits as divideSeries does. I think applyByNode is what I want, but I can't seem to translate the example into something that actually works.
